Strengthening Response to Gender-Based Violence Survivors in Papua New Guinea and Timor-Leste

As we slowly start to move back to “normal” and whatever that may look like for us as individuals and as a club, Zonta Club of Sydney has started to look forward to the proposed 2020-2022 International Projects for Zonta International. This years Convention has of course had to be cancelled and moved online, so learning about these projects and the proposed involvement of Zonta International Foundation is through reading the documentation online and watching videos.

The proposed project based in Papua New Guinea and Timor-Leste is not only the closest geographically to our club, but it is an important place for a number of current and past club members. The goal is to allow all women and girls in Papua New Guinea (PNG) and Timor-Leste to live life free from violence. Currently, statistics show that 68% of women in PNG and 59% of women in Timor-Leste report experiencing some form of physical and/or sexual violence in their lifetime.

A video on the project can be watched below
