Let Us Learn Madagascar

Another of the proposed Zonta International Projects for 2020 – 2022 is the third phase of the Let Us Learn Madagascar project. Between 2016 and 2020, Zonta International contributed $US 2 million to this project, which is an integrated education program which creates opportunities for vulnerable and excluded children, particularly girls, in Madagascar.

Phase III will continue to address education and gender inequity in Madagascar, and target adolescent girls, who drop out at higher levels to allow them to access education and stay in school.

In April 2020, Zonta International and Unicef provided an update on the program. In the period from September 2019 to March 2020 two classrooms, two latrine blocks and a sports field were able to be completed. As well, 1,037 out of school children (more than 550 girls) benefited from catch-up classes before the start of the school year and 963 of these reintegrated into public school.
