On Wednesday 15th May the members of the Zonta Club of Sydney met for our regular monthly meeting, with the addition of our Annual General Meeting. As always we were very well fed by the great staff at Club York and enjoyed hearing from a wonderful guest speaker. For this month, our guest speaker was Professor Jennifer Burn, the interim Anti-Slavery Commissioner, who gave us an excellent talk on the new NSW Anti Slavery legislation, along with some background about what modern slavery may look like and what we can do to combat it. The information she shared was so important and interesting that we will shortly be dedicating an entire post to it – so stay tuned!
As well as our guest speaker, we also were lucky enough to welcome Louise Mackintosh as a guest. Louise is the recipient of the JMK scholarship for District 23 Area 5 last year so it was lovely to welcome her to our meeting.
As our club meeting was combined with our AGM we also enjoyed hearing our outgoing president, Kerrie Bigsworth, give her annual report, which reminded us of the fantastic efforts we have made this year in advocacy, service, fundraising and fellowship – which also deserves it’s own post to celebrate our efforts. Kerrie also welcomed our new board, including our new president, Joanna Quinn and new vice-president, Vanessa Cook.
