Anyone with an interest in aviation may wish to attend the Australian Women Pilot’s Association (AWPA) Mary O’Brien Dine with the Aviators dinner, which will be held on Thursday 21st February at the Bankstown Trotting Recreational Club.
This dinner is named after Mary O’Brien, who was leader in aviation, with many achievements to her name, including being the first female to captain a Lear jet. As well as her multiple professional achievements, Mary O’Brien was also a member of the Zonta Club of Sydney and was a past president of our club. Her obituary, published in the Sydney Morning Herald, describes her multitude of achievements.
Zonta clubs across the world have a special affiliation with aviation, and the Amelia Earhart fellowships are awarded annually to women studying aerospace-applied sciences and engineering.
