This dinner is named after Mary O’Brien, who was leader in aviation, with many achievements to her name, including being the first female to captain a Lear jet. As well as her multiple professional achievements, Mary O’Brien was also a member of the Zonta Club of Sydney and was a past president of our club. Her obituary, published in the Sydney Morning Herald, describes her multitude of achievements.
Zonta clubs across the world have a special affiliation with aviation, and the Amelia Earhart fellowships are awarded annually to women studying aerospace-applied sciences and engineering.
