Another year has arrived and the first month is almost over! So as January draws to a close it is time to recap our first monthly meeting for 2019.
For this years first club meeting, along with member of the Zonta Club of Sydney we also welcomed guests from We Help Ourselves (WHOs) Rozelle, an organisation which provides therapeutic programs aimed at providing recovery from alcohol and other drug dependence.
For this meeting our two speakers were both club members. Barbara Horsfield spoke about Zontian Amelia Earhart and her career, and why Zonta honour her memory by raising money and awarding scholarships to allow other women to achieve amazing things in aeronautical engineering and associated fields. This was followed by folding and flying paper planes, as well as a spot quiz.
And later, Emma Hunt spoke to club members about the Zonta International foundation projects and activities for the current biennium (2018 – 2020). These projects are “Let Us Learn Madagascar” – a program aimed at adolescent girls, and “Eid bi Eid” (Hand in Hand) supporting Syrian refugees and vulnerable Jordanian women in Jordan.
As well as these programs, Zonta International are contributing funds to UNFPA-UNICEF program to end child marriage. Further information about these projects will appear in a future post!
As always, along with our speakers, club members enjoyed a delicious dinner and fun and fellowship. To attend any of our meetings, which are held on the third Wednesday of each month at Club York, York St Sydney, email us at zontaclubsydney@gmail.com
