Today is the 25th November, which is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. It also marks the start of the 16 days of activism campaign, which is a campaign against gender based violence.
To raise awareness of these issues, and to join the global movement, there are many things you can do. Like and share our posts, and those of organisations like UN Women and many others who work across the globe to improve the status of women. You can wear orange, and the Zonta Club of Sydney will be updating our social media pictures to reflect the Zonta Says No campaign.
In Australia, according to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) report from 2018 one woman a week was killed by a current or former partner 2012 – 2014. 1 in 5 women have been sexually assaulted and/or threatened since the age of 15. You can read more of the statistics in the report.

Globally, Zonta International supports many programs to reduce gender based violence. One of our main programs for the current biennium is the reduction in child marriage program, where we work across the world to reduce the number of young girls being married as children or young teens.
So join us over the next 16 days (and at all times) where we will be sharing information and statistics about the importance of acting against gender based violence.
