September Club Meeting

Another month is flying past, and the Zonta Club of Sydney monthly meeting this month was a great one! On Wednesday 19th September club members met at Club York, 99 York St, and were joined by our excellent guest speaker, the Hon Leslie Williams MP.

Ms Williams is the NSW State member for Port Macquarie, representing the National Party.  She spoke to members about a broad range of topics, from her childhood and upbringing on Kangaroo Island to her careers in teaching and nursing before entering politics.  The excellent work of the coalition for Keeping Women out of Prison, of which the Zonta Club of Sydney is a member was discussed, as well as the importance of having a diverse array of people, including more women, representing our communities in parliament.  Club members were able to ask questions across topics, from how can we better support women to avoid them going to prison to the current topical issue of how can we increase the numbers of women in parliament.

Thanks again to Ms Williams for generously donating her time and allowing us such excellent access to her insights into politics today.

However our guest speaker was not the only highlight of the night.  After dinner, our president Kerrie inducted our newest club member, Vanessa, into the Zonta family.  With the addition of Vanessa we now have 33 active members – and if anyone else wants to join us to find out more about our aims of empowering women through service and advocacy please get in contact!
