On Wednesday the 19th June 2019 members of the Zonta Club of Sydney met for the first club meeting under our new President, Joanna Quinn. Members were joined by Vanessa Sore, who is this years UTS MBA prize awardee, as well as members of the Zonta Club of North Sydney Breakfast.
Our guest speaker was Vanessa, who showed clearly why she was awarded our annual UTS MBA prize and spoke eloquently and passionately about her role in the financial services industry and her belief in mentoring. As part of the prize awarded, Vanessa has been invited to join our club which she has accepted, and we look forward to her input into our club.
We also had the pleasure of hearing from Diana Burrell (President) and Samantha Gale (Vice President and advocacy chair) from the Zonta Club of North Sydney Breakfast, who visited our meeting to discuss opportunities to collaborate on our advocacy projects. ZCNSB also have a strong focus on assisting women affected by the criminal justice system, and we agree wholeheartedly with the importance of working together to spread the word and improve and empower women across the country.
As well as our speakers, club members were presented with certificates for their long service to Zonta. Our new life members, Marcia Seymour Dane OAM and Dr Hilarie Lindsay MBA OAM were not present to receive theirs, however our president Joanna Quinn was presented with her certificate for 36 years service – a wonderful commitment!
As always, club members were very well fed by the wonderful Club York staff, and we enjoyed a night of fellowship as well as our club meeting.
Our guest speaker next month will be from Lou’s Place, the daytime refuge for women which operates in Kings Cross. Anyone who would like to attend our meeting, hear about Lou’s Place and learn more about Zonta is most welcome – please contact the club at zontaclubsydney@gmail.com
