International Economic Abuse Awareness Day – 26th November

Today is International Economic Abuse Awareness Day and is Day 2 of the 16 days of activism.

Did you know that in Australia –

  • At least 1.6 million women have experienced economic abuse in their lifetime (ABS)
  • Economic abuse results in direct costs to victim-survivors of $5.7 billion a year (Deloitte)
  • 1 in 10 women say a partner has forced or pressured them to hand over their savings or other assets (CWES)
  • Only 28% of Australians would know where to get assistance or support if they were experiencing economic abuse (CWES)

The Centre for Women’s Economic Safety (CWES) have Money Clinics to provide free, independent financial safety planning and information for women and non-binary people experiencing family violence. They also have a Financial Safety website which offers financial information with a family violence lens and includes a national directory of services.
