The lights dimmed. The audience fell silent. A spotlight illuminated the pianist and her grand piano. Delicate and rich sounds emerged filling the hall.
On Sunday 31 August 2025 Yanghee Kim, a highly accomplished pianist, gave a wonderful performance in the Peter Duly Concert Hall at Abbotsleigh School in Wahroonga. The piano recital was hosted by the Zonta Club of Sydney (ZCS) to raise funds for the Birthing Kit Foundation.
The program included some classic piano works by Brahms and Chopin, interspersed with more modern pieces, such as Valley of Rocks by Miriam Hyde, the latter introduced by Yanghee as an interpretation of a howling wind and tempestuous sea invading a valley surrounded by rocks.
More than 70 people enjoyed the recital. It was great to see some of the leadership team of Zonta District 24 among the audience, Governor Bernadine Guy, Lt Governor Sue Johnston and Area 1 Director Kaye Amies. A heartfelt thanks to ZCS members Gail Conder and Rosemary Abrahams for conceptualising the event. A huge vote of thanks also to Yanghee, who donated her performance fee for the afternoon back to the club, a wonderfully generous action for which our club is very grateful.

Thanks to the generosity of Yanghee and all the attendees, we raised over $3000 to purchase materials for a birthing kit packing day for the Birthing Kit Foundation Australia, providing clean birth kits for women giving birth at home in remote regions of
the developing world.
